HEALTHY Armstrong focuses on implementing activities within the schools of the Armstrong School District (ASD) and within the community at-large.
In-School Initiatives
Great strides have been made in modifying the school meal programs to offer more healthy food options. Improvements include:

- Removal of deep fryers in kitchen
- Addition of more whole grain food choices
- At least three kinds of fresh fruit options and one fresh vegetable available daily
- Only 1% or skim milk served
- Removal of soda pop from all vending machines in student areas
In-school activities include morning exercise programs to begin the day and regular nutrition lessons within classes. All the elementary schools participated in ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously), a national program that reinforces the importance of regular physical exercise.
Overall, more than 1,300 students participated in after-school programs at the seven elementary schools. These activities included cooking demonstrations at Lenape Tech and wellness classes that included parents or caregivers.
