UPMC Health Plan is proud to partner with the HEALTHY Armstrong coalition in Armstrong County. HEALTHY Armstrong was established to improve the health of families in the community and to help children maintain a healthy weight through improved nutrition and increased physical activity.
HEALTHY stands for Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles Together Helping Youth.
Several community organizations saw the need for such a program when a body mass index review of children in the Armstrong County Schools showed that 35% of them were heavier than 85% of children of their age and gender nationally.
This program uses the National Institutes of Health We Can!® (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition) curriculum to focus on increasing physical activity, improving food choices, and reducing screen (TV, video games, etc.) time.
