William Gedman, CPA, CIA, is vice president, Quality Audit, Fraud & Abuse, for the UPMC Insurance Services Division. He oversees a staff that conducts internal financial, operational, and regulatory audits; completes health insurance claim audits; and performs telephone quality audits. He also directs staff members who are responsible for potential fraud and abuse investigations, and he interacts extensively with external regulatory and law enforcement entities.
Since joining UPMC in 1998, Mr. Gedman has served in a variety of senior positions. He has been a member of UPMC Health Plan's senior team since October 2004. Mr. Gedman is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor and serves on the Board of Governors of the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Carlow University and Duquesne University. Mr. Gedman has a BA from Carlow University, attended Duquesne University for MA studies, and received his accounting program certificate from the University of Pittsburgh.
