About Us We Can! Pittsburgh Events

As a We Can! City, Pittsburgh has conducted numerous We Can!-related activities and events focused on having children eat healthy foods and increase their activity levels.

The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh

Past We Can! Events at The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh

steel city hoop unionFamilies got hooping with Pittsburgh’s hottest hoop group, Steel City Hoop Union! They learned new moves and tricks to try to see how long they could keep that hoop twirling. A fun, fresh take on a time-honored activity.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's interactive Discover Dance program introduced a group of children to ballet. This 45-minute program combined short performances with opportunities for children to practice rhythm and marching, physical expression, and moving as an ensemble. Many of the children wore colorful tutus supplied by the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.

The Three Rivers Fencing Club provided fencing demonstrations and encouraged the children to try fencing during this fun, active event.

Freestyle Footbagging Jam, featuring Steel City Freestyle, gave over 300 participants the chance to learn acrobatic kicks and tricks.

The Great American Backyard Campout welcomed over 400 people who learned the importance of physical activity and healthy food choices in a camp environment. Children built teepees, participated in a tug-of-war and sack races, enjoyed healthy campfire snacks, and joined in a rousing campfire sing-along.

The Chicago Youth Circus delighted over 250 people who came to see this traveling group of young circus performers. A workshop was available to all participants after the performance. The workshop featured physical activities such as tight rope walking, juggling and spinning plates, and riding giant gym wheels.
