Assessment forms help provide timely pregnancy assistanceUPMC Health Plan urges all providers to complete obstetric needs assessment forms (OBNA) for UPMC for You (Medical Assistance) members who are pregnant. These forms must be returned to the Health Plan as soon as possible. By using the OBNA forms, the Health Plan is able to quickly assess any needs that pregnant women might have. If an OBNA form is not completed, the Health Plan must wait until a claim is filed to begin to determine the woman’s needs. When an OBNA form is completed for a Medical Assistance member, the Health Plan can evaluate the woman to discover any potential problem areas. For example, she may have a history of smoking, a history of multiple births, mental health issues, or co-morbidity disease issues. She may also have social and economic issues that can hinder her ability to get the prenatal treatment she needs. Maternity program staff can then target interventions based on those needs. The OBNA form for Medical Assistance members is available through Provider OnLine in the “Reference Library” at upmchealthplan.com.
