Does your child need glasses?

If your child needs glasses, he or she might:

  • Close or cover one eye
  • Squint or frown
  • Complain that things are blurry or hard to see
  • Have trouble reading or doing other close-up work, or hold objects close to eyes in order to see
  • Blink more than usual or seem cranky when doing close-up work (such as looking at books)

Having your child’s vision checked regularly is especially important if someone in your family has had vision problems. Your child’s UPMC for Kids coverage includes visits for routine eye exams and glasses. For these services, you need to make an appointment with a participating provider. To find a participating provider in your area, call UPMC for Kids Member Services at 1-800-650-8762 or visit the UPMC for Kids website at www.upmchealthplan.com/upmcforkids, and select “Participating Providers” from the menu on the left. Then scroll down until you see the page for “Dental and Vision Providers.”
