Our commitment to quality

UPMC Health Plan’s Quality Improvement Program had many successes in 2007. Quality of care has increased, as evidenced by: Improved monitoring of members on medication for heart disease Improved management of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis Increased screening for glaucoma Increased follow-up on members hospitalized for mental illness

At UPMC Health Plan, the quality of health care our members receive is very important to us. Our Quality Improvement Committee is dedicated to improving service and quality of care in addition to promoting hospital safety.

In 2007, we implemented interactive tools on our website to encourage members to actively manage their health and to help them access and track claims and obtain pharmacy benefit information. The number of members who receive childhood immunizations and adult immunizations, including the flu shot, has increased. The number of children who receive follow-up care after being prescribed medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has steadily increased as well.

The Health Plan will continue to focus in 2008 on women’s health, cardiac care, diabetes, respiratory care, and childhood and adolescent care.
