Fluoride treatments
Fluoride’s ability to fight tooth decay and build decay-resistant teeth in children has been well known for years. Most major cities in the United States fluoridate their water to improve the overall dental health of their residents.
Fluoride treatments can be applied in a dentist’s office as a gel, foam, or varnish. Or they may be prescribed by a dentist in liquid or tablet form.
Fluoride helps to strengthen teeth by providing the needed minerals found in enamel, which forms the outer layer of teeth. Fluoride treatments slow tooth decay.
Things you can do:
- Always use fluoridated toothpaste.
- Consult with your dentist to determine your child’s risk for tooth decay.
- If you use a home water treatment system, have your water tested once a year to determine fluoride levels.
