Heart disease — are you at risk?

The American Heart Association has identified several factors that increase the risk of heart
disease and heart attack. You can change or control some risk factors — others you can’t. The more risk factors you have, the greater your chance of developing heart disease.

If you think you are at risk for heart disease, talk to your doctor about how you can lower your chances of developing heart disease. If a doctor has told you that you have heart disease, there’s someone at UPMC for You who is ready to help you. Care managers will help you understand what you need to do to live a healthy life. As part of the Cardiovascular Health Management program, they can talk with you on the phone and send you information. You will also get reminders about important medical tests that can help you stay healthy throughout the year.
