Medications can double your chances of quitting. Nicotine patch, gum, nasal spray, oral inhaler, and lozenge and non-nicotine tablets can relieve the discomfort often experienced in the early stages of quitting. Call Member Services at 1-888-876-2756 to find out if you are eligible for this pharmacy benefit.
When you really want to smoke...
- Breathe deeply — Cravings can last 3 to 5 minutes. Take a few deep breaths to help get past the urge.
- Drink water — Drink six to eight glasses of water every day. Try not to drink alcohol, coffee, or other beverages that you link with smoking, especially in the early stages.
- Distract yourself — Take a walk, chew gum, or keep smoking substitutes, such as carrots, celery sticks, hard candy, or flavored toothpicks, handy.
