Westmoreland Health System Joins UPMC Health Plan's Network

Pittsburgh, Pa. (May 14, 2003) — UPMC Health Plan and Westmoreland Health System have reached an agreement that adds Westmoreland Regional Hospital of Greensburg to the Health Plan's growing network of contracted facilities and physicians.

Beginning June 1, 2003, Westmoreland Health System will be a participating provider of all UPMC Health Plan commercial products, as well as for UPMC for Life (Medicare HMO, PPO, and Select) and UPMC for You (Medicaid HMO).

"UPMC Health Plan's agreement with Westmoreland Health System is very good news for Health Plan members who live in Westmoreland County," said Patricia A. Liebman, UPMC Health Plan chief executive officer.

Westmoreland Health System, the largest provider of care in Westmoreland County, also includes Frick Hospital of Mount Pleasant, which has been part of UPMC Health Plan's network since 1999. The two facilities had an estimated 18,000 patient admissions and over 250,000 outpatient visits in 2002.

"Westmoreland Health System is pleased to become part of the provider network of western Pennsylvania's fastest growing health plan," said David S. Gallatin, chairman of the Board of Trustees and acting CEO for Westmoreland Health System, which has an integrated medical staff of 450 doctors.

Westmoreland Regional Hospital is a 348-bed, acute-care facility serving the residents of Greensburg and surrounding areas. Westmoreland Regional offers state-of-the-art cardiac and cancer care, women's and children's care, rehabilitation services and a primary care network.

UPMC Health Plan has over 390,000 members. Its parent organization, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), was recognized for a fourth consecutive year as one of only 17 health systems in the nation named to U.S. News & World Report's "Best of the Best" honor roll.
