J.C. Blair Joins UPMC Health Plan Network PITTSBURGH, Pa. (March 11, 2004) - UPMC Health Plan and J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital of Huntingdon have reached an agreement that adds Huntingdon County's only primary care hospital to the Health Plan's growing network of contracted facilities and physicians. Effective immediately, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital will be a participating provider for UPMC Health Plan's commercial products. J.C. Blair is a 104-bed non-profit community hospital with an active medical staff of nearly 60 physicians, over 400 employees, and more than 50 active volunteers. "The Health Plan's agreement is good news for UPMC Health Plan members who live in Huntingdon County and surrounding communities," said Diane P. Holder, UPMC Health Plan chief executive officer. J.C. Blair serves over 45,000 Huntingdon County residents. Its key services include 24-hour emergency care, intensive care, medical/surgical care, pediatrics, behavioral health services, and maternity and gynecological care, as well as full-service medical laboratory, cardiopulmonary, and radiology departments, and a new wound healing center. "Joining the UPMC network allows us to grow our market," said Wayne Rankin, chief financial officer of J.C. Blair. "And it will also offer more choice to residents and employers in Huntingdon County." UPMC Health Plan, a health care benefits company, serves over 400,000 members and 4,700 employer groups. UPMC Health Plan partners with doctors and hospitals in making decisions about patients' health care. Health Plan members are served by some 6,700 physicians at 83 hospitals throughout 26 counties of western Pennsylvania.
