UPMC Health Plan to Host Seminars to Explain Changes in Medicare PITTSBURGH (September 12, 2005) - In an effort to help Medicare beneficiaries better understand their options under the Medicare Reform bill signed into law by President Bush in 2003, UPMC Health Plan is hosting a series of seminars throughout western Pennsylvania this month. Medicare beneficiaries and anyone else interested in learning about Medicare Reform—including Medicare Part D, the new prescription drug benefit—are invited to attend any of more than 40 seminars that are scheduled to begin September 19, 2005, and run through September 30, 2005. Medicare Reform becomes effective January 1, 2006. Medicare beneficiaries can begin enrolling in a prescription drug benefit plan starting November 15, 2005. "We want people to better understand the choices available through this new law," said Linda G. Choiniere, Vice President of Medicare for UPMC Health Plan. "These are exciting times for people on Medicare, but they need to be informed so they can make the right decision." UPMC Health Plan is offering the information sessions as a public service to Medicare beneficiaries in western Pennsylvania. UPMC Health Plan representatives will be on hand for the presentation and to answer questions. Seating at the seminars is limited, so reservations are recommended. For reservations and other seminar information call UPMC Health Plan at 1-866-400-5076.
