UPMC for You Leads State, Makes National Top-5 List PITTSBURGH (October 4, 2005) — UPMC Health Plan's Medical Assistance program, UPMC for You, ranked No. 5 in the United States in a recent review by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and U.S. News & World Report magazine NCQA, a national organization that reviews and ranks health plans on quality and preventive health measures, named UPMC for You the top Meidcal Assistance health plan in Pennsylvania. The rankings were published in the Oct. 10 issue of U.S. News & World Report. The national news magazine used a star system to rank health plans in specific categories. UPMC for You earned five stars in three of four major categories (access to care, member satisfaction, and prevention). Of the seven top ranked Medical Assistance programs in Pennsylvania, UPMC for You was the only one to receive five stars in more than one category. UPMC for You's high rankings were based on NCQA's review of preventive health and member satisfaction data. The rankings are now available in the health section of U.S. News & World Report's website. The magazine publication marks the first time NCQA has released the information through a media partner. "UPMC for You is emerging as a leader locally, statewide, and nationally," said Diane P. Holder, president of UPMC Health Plan. "The recent rankings in U.S. News & World Report are confirmation of the hard work by our staff and the network physicians who care for our members." The Health Plan was recognized through the U.S. News & World Report/NCQA America's Best Health Plans 2005 listing in the news magazine. NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and manages the evolution of HEDIS, the tool NCQA uses to measure and report on the performance of the nation's health plans. (Note: Reporters interested in producing local health care "report cards" should contact the NCQA Communications Department at (202) 955-3518 to discuss data needs.)
