UPMC Health Plan Provides Space for Free Tax Assistance Program

PITTSBURGH (February 13, 2007) — UPMC Health Plan is providing space at its Chatham Center headquarters, Downtown, for free income tax assistance through VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

Under the program — sponsored by the Internal Revenue System — specially trained volunteers provide free assistance to lower- or fixed-income families, senior citizens, and physically disadvantaged taxpayers who file a basic form 1040 or form 1040A Federal tax return. Pennsylvania state returns are also prepared.

The tax assistance center is located at UPMC Health Plan’s corporate offices, on the first floor of Chatham Center II, 112 Washington Place, Downtown. Chatham Center II is located behind the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. The volunteers will be available at this site until April 13, 2007.

In order to receive assistance, you must bring wage and earnings statements from your employer, bank interest statements, a copy of last year’s tax return if available, and other relevant information about income and expenses.
