UPMC Health Plan President Co-Chairs Governor’s New Chronic Care Commission

PITTSBURGH (September 24, 2007) — UPMC Health Plan announced today that the company’s president, Diane Holder, will serve as one of two co-chairs of  Governor Rendell’s Chronic Care Management, Reimbursement and Cost Reduction Commission. The Commission was created by Executive Order on May 21, 2007 and is charged with improving the management of diabetes and other chronic diseases throughout Pennsylvania.  The group met for the first time on September 17.

"Chronic diseases are the biggest health concern to Pennsylvanians, and it is time to take a proactive approach to prevention and early treatment," said Diane Holder. "UPMC Health Plan is pleased to be working with the Commission on a solution that will be a direct benefit to current patients with chronic conditions and those who might develop such conditions in the future.”

The Commission is to design a strategic plan with recommendations in four key areas:  Incentive Alignment, Consumer Engagement, Practice Re-design and Performance Measurement.  The Commission will provide its recommendations within 90 days in order for the Commonwealth to continue with implementation of the broader initiative, Prescription for Pennsylvania.
