Caregiver

Caring for a loved one who needs help can be challenging. UPMC for Life, in partnership with the Institute on Aging, is offering the Powerful Tools for Caregiver program. This program, designed specifically to help family caregivers, will teach you how to take care of yourself while you care for a spouse, relative, or friend who lives at home or in a nursing home.

  • Classes consist of six weekly sessions
  • Two specially trained and experienced Class Leaders conduct the classes
  • Interactive lessons, discussions, and brainstorming will help you take the “tools” you choose and put them into action in your life
  • You will receive a book, The Caregiver Helpbook, that contains important information on:
  • Hiring in-home help
  • Making legal and financial decisions
  • Deciding whether someone should continue to drive

You’ll learn to use tools that can help you:

  • Reduce your stress.
  • Communicate effectively with others (family members, your doctor, and other caregivers).
  • Take care of yourself.
  • Reduce guilt, anger, and depression.
