UPMC Health Plan Offers Lowest Cost Silver Marketplace Plan for the Third Year

PITTSBURGH (October 26, 2016) – UPMC Health Plan will offer a wide range of some of the lowest cost Qualified Health Plans (QHP) on and off the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace, including the lowest cost silver option in Pittsburgh, Erie and UPMC Health Plan’s entire service area.

Among UPMC Health Plan’s offerings are nine plans in each of three networks, including a Silver Simple Choice Plan, at least one plan in each metallic category, and a catastrophic plan. Prospective members can start “window shopping” – that is, comparing prices and plans online – now. Open enrollment begins Nov. 1, 2016 and continues through January 31, 2017. The deadline to enroll for January 1, 2017 coverage is December 15, 2016.

Once again this year, UPMC Health Plan will offer three networks from which consumers can choose: Premium, Select, and Partner networks. The Partner Network includes all UPMC facilities and physicians plus a few additional partners and offers consumers who reside in Allegheny, Bedford, Blair, and Erie Lawrence, Mercer and Venango counties the lowest premium option.

The Select Network is available to residents of in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, and Westmoreland. In addition to UPMC physicians and facilities, the Select Network includes community partners: Butler Memorial Hospital, Excela Health System, Grove City Medical Center, Heritage Valley Health System, Monongahela Valley Hospital, and Washington Health System.

The UPMC Premium Network is available to consumers who live anywhere in the 29 counties of western Pennsylvania and includes all UPMC physicians and facilities, the community partners, as well as numerous independent providers and facilities.

“For 2017, we look forward to enrolling many new Marketplace customers who will join the over 100,000 individuals who have already chosen UPMC Health Plan,” said Kimberly Cepullio, Vice President of Sales and Account Management for UPMC Health Plan. “Our plans offer great value and access to high-quality health care. And we encourage our members to proactively participate in their health.”

UPMC Advantage will reward members who do so. By completing these two steps within 90 days of their effective date—select a primary care physician and complete a health risk assessment—members and their dependent spouses will be eligible to receive a $50 gift card code that can be redeemed at a retailer of their choice (there are hundreds of retailers from which to choose).

We encourage consumers to see if they qualify for a federal subsidy. Many consumers are eligible but are unaware. General information about the Marketplace and health care reform can currently be found online at www.upmchealthplan.com/healthcarereform/index.html.
