UPMC Consumer Advantage offers a Health Reimbursement Account
(HRA) so you can have greater control and ownership over your health
care, resulting in lower out-of-pocket costs. An HRA is an account,
owned and funded by your employer, that you can use to help pay for
any covered health care expenses during the deductible period. Your
HRA can pay for:
- Copayments
- Coinsurance
- Prescription drugs
- Many other covered medical expenses
To be eligible for the HRA, you must be enrolled in UPMC Consumer
Advantage. Your HRA will cover a portion of your deductible and
you receive a tax benefit because payments for qualified medical expenses
from the HRA are not taxed.
Any additional costs for medical services are paid by you, out-of-pocket,
until the deductible is met. Once you have met your deductible, claims
are paid in full by your PPO plan, subject to any coinsurance for which
you are responsible. Since your employer owns and funds the HRA, your
employer determines if any unused funds in your HRA can be rolled over
for the next benefit year. Also, you must remain employed by your employer
and enrolled in a high-deductible health plan to be able to access and
use the HRA funds.
