Over 7,000 doctors and 80 hospitals — including the region's best
UPMC Health Plan student health insurance lets you choose to visit any of the more than 80 hospitals and over 7,000 physicians that participate in the Health Plan's network — a network that includes people and facilities rated among the best by sources ranging from Pittsburgh Magazine to U.S. News & World Report.
If your regular doctor does not participate in the Health Plan network, you are still covered. Your student health insurance plan gives you the freedom to see out-of-network providers for only slightly more than the cost to see a participating doctor. Out-of-area students who go home for extended visits or school vacations get to use the doctors and facilities of UPMC Health Plan's national network partner, Private Healthcare Systems. This is the largest proprietary preferred provider organization (PPO) network in the country, with nearly 450,000 providers and over 4,000 facilities.
