Caring for a loved one? You need care too. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program can help.
Caring for a loved one who needs help can be challenging. In partnership with the Institute on Aging, we offer the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program. This program, designed specifically to help family caregivers, will teach you how to take care of yourself while you care for a spouse, relative, or friend who lives at home or in a nursing home.
- Classes consist of six weekly sessions
- Two specially trained and experienced Class Leaders conduct the classes
- Interactive lessons, discussions, and brainstorming will help you take the “tools” you choose and put them into action in your life
- You will receive a book, The Caregiver Helpbook, which contains important information on:
- Hiring in-home help
- Making legal and financial decisions
- Deciding whether someone should continue to drive
You’ll learn to use tools that can help you:
- Reduce your stress.
- Communicate effectively with others (family members, your doctor, and other caregivers).
- Take care of yourself.
- Reduce guilt, anger, and depression.
- Relax your mind and body.
- Make tough decisions.
- Set goals and solve problems.
- Get rid of negative self-talk.
