When you’re sick or injured, call your PCP first. He or she knows your health history and has your medical records. Many practices have after-hours appointments or walk-in hours. If you have a life-threatening injury, seek emergency care.

Visit UPMC AnywhereCare when you have a minor condition requiring medical care. With this service, you can have a virtual visit with a doctor straight from your computer or smartphone — any time, day or night. The physician will provide a summary treatment plan, which may include a prescription. The cost of the visit is often the same or less than a PCP visit and less than an urgent care copayment.**

If you need emergency care when traveling 100 or more miles away from home, your membership in UPMC Health Plan entitles you to a global emergency services program called Assist America. This is not travel or medical insurance. Assist America connects you to resources such as doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and other services while away from home. All medical costs incurred should be submitted to your health plan and are subject to the policy limits of your health coverage.
