UPMC Health Plan Presents ‘Can Your Tan’

ERIE, Pa. (Feb.10, 2014)  —  UPMC Health Plan presents “Can Your Tan,” a fun way to beat the winter blahs while also learning important information about taking care of your skin.

“Cherish the Skin You’re In,” is the theme of this year’s event, which is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at the Ambassador Center on Peach Street in Erie.

Among the featured speakers will be a plastic surgeon, a skin specialist, and a physician assistant from The Regional Cancer Center in Erie. The panel discussion will address how to keep your skin healthy and looking great, while also avoiding the dangers connected with exposure to the sun.

According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers, accounting for nearly half the cancers in the United States.  Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, accounts for more than 75,000 cases a year.

One of the featured speakers at this year’s event will be a local melanoma survivor. This woman discovered her condition only after a friend – who attended “Can Your Tan” in 2013 – raised concerns about a suspicious spot on her skin.

In addition to the speakers, “Can Your Tan” includes shopping, prizes, giveaways, refreshments, and a spray tan demonstration.  Included in the prize package, which is worth over $600, is dinner for four at local restaurant, four spa pedicures at Ambridge Rose Spa and Salon, flowers from Gary’s Flowers, and a limousine ride from South Shore Limousine.  All attendees will be automatically entered to win prizes.

Pre-registration is not needed to attend the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 814-871-6968.
