UPMC Health Plan Welcomes Dr. Christina Barrington as Chief Pharmacy Officer

Barrington is the Immediate Past President of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy

Pittsburgh (June. 23, 2025) – UPMC Health Plan has welcomed Dr. Christina Barrington as its Chief Pharmacy Officer for the UPMC Insurance Services Division.

With more than two decades of experience in the health care industry, Dr. Barrington has held leadership roles in pharmacy management, most recently serving as Vice President of Pharmacy Services at Priority Health. She is deeply engaged in the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), where she has been recognized as a Gold Champion and has served as President and Past President of the AMCP Midwest Affiliate. She is currently the Immediate Past President of AMCP and serves on its board of directors at the national level. She previously held positions as Treasurer and Chairwoman of the AMCP Finance Committee.

In her role at UPMC Health Plan, Dr. Barrington will drive the strategic direction, execution, and assessment of pharmacy clinical resource management, integrating business strategies to enhance efficiency, ensure excellence in care, and support quality improvement programs. She will also foster innovation in pharmacy practices while ensuring the responsible allocation of financial resources. In addition, Dr. Barrington will work closely with the UPMC Health Plan Clinical Services Department to leverage pharmacy data in driving evidence-based decision-making; optimizing patient outcomes; and supporting sustainable, cost-effective health care solutions.

Dr. Barrington is a seasoned managed care pharmacist and has dedicated her career to serving health plan members through leadership roles with national payers, including Priority Health, OptumRx, and Humana. Her expertise spans CMS Star Ratings for clinical quality performance, formulary services, clinical data and analytics, drug intelligence services, and the management of contracted vendor services.
