International Customer Management Institute
UPMC Health Plan was named Best Large Call Center of the Year in 2019 by the International Customer Management Institute (ICMI). This is not the first time ICMI has recognized UPMC Health Plan for customer service excellence. It won Global Call Center of the Year in 2017, 2015, and 2012, as well as earned other honors throughout the years.
UPMC Health Plan has earned one of 10 coveted 2021 Grand Stevie® Awards for its exemplary customer service. Grand Stevie trophies are awarded to companies that submit an exceptional body of work for the Stevie Awards competition. Judges include many of the world's most respected executives, entrepreneurs, innovators, and business educators. More than 2,300 nominations from companies in 51 nations were considered in this year’s competition.
In 2021, the Health Plan also earned five Gold Stevie Awards for its sales and customer service excellence, including Best Back-Office Customer Service Team and Sales Support Team of the Year. Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service are recognized as the top customer service and sales awards.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation has named UPMC Health Plan one of the 2021 "Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality” because of its policies, benefits, and practices. The Health Plan earned a 100 percent rating. This is the third consecutive year the Health Plan has earned the award.
IQPC Customer Contact Week
For the third time, UPMC Health Plan’s Member Services Department has been honored with the Best in Class Contact Center award from IQPC Customer Contact Week. UPMC Health Plan also earned top honors in 2015 and 2016.
National Business Group on Health
UPMC and UPMC Health Plan have won a platinum "2019 Best Employers: Excellence in Health & Well-Being" award from the National Business Group on Health (NGBH). This accolade—formerly the “Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles” award—recognizes organizations that are committed to improving employees’ well-being, productivity, and quality of life. National Committee for Quality Assurance
Health plans must support care that keeps members at optimum levels of health while also controlling costs and meeting government and other requirements. NCQA Health Plan Accreditation helps plans meet these goals. UPMC Health Plan’s commercial HMO product was rated 4.5 out of 5 in NCQA’s Private Health Insurance Plan Ratings in 2019-2020. It is among the highest-ranked plans in Pennsylvania. In addition, its commercial PPO/EPO product was rated 4 out of 5.
UPMC for You is one of five Medicaid plans in Pennsylvania to earn an overall rating of 4 out of 5 in NCQA’s Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Ratings for 2019-2020.
UPMC for Life earned an overall rating of 4 out of 5 in NCQA’s Medicare Health Insurance Plan Ratings for 2019-2020.
Due largely to UPMC Health Plan's robust corporate compliance and ethics program, its parent company, UPMC, has been named one of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" in 2021 by the Ethisphere Institute. This is the third consecutive year UPMC has earned the award, which is given to only 135 companies worldwide. UPMC is one of just two organizations to be recognized in the integrated health care delivery and finance system category.

NCQA Multicultural Health Care Distinction
For the first time, UPMC Health Plan has earned the Multicultural Health Care Distinction from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its Medical Assistance product, UPMC for You. Multicultural Health Care recognizes organizations that lead the market in providing culturally and linguistically sensitive services, and working to reduce health care disparities. NCQA awards distinction to organizations that meet or exceed its rigorous requirements for multicultural health care.
