International Customer Management Institute
UPMC Health Plan was named Best Large Call Center of the Year in 2019 by the International Customer Management Institute (ICMI). This is not the first time ICMI has recognized UPMC Health Plan for customer service excellence. It won Global Call Center of the Year in 2017, 2015, and 2012, as well as earned other honors throughout the years.

Stevie Awards
UPMC Health Plan earned 11 awards for customer service excellence at the 14th Annual Stevie® Awards—including the 2020 People’s Choice Stevie Award for Favorite Customer Service in the Healthcare and Pharma category. UPMC Health Plan earned three 2019 Gold Stevie Awards for its outstanding sales and customer service. The Stevie Awards are the world’s premier business awards.

Healthiest Employers
UPMC Health Plan was named a 2020 Philadelphia Business Journal Healthiest Employer.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation named UPMC Health Plan one of the "2020 Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality" because of its policies, benefits, and practices. The Health Plan earned a 100 percent rating. This is the second consecutive year the Health Plan has earned the award.

IQPC Customer Contact Week
For the third time, UPMC Health Plan’s Member Services Department has been honored with the Best in Class Contact Center award from IQPC Customer Contact Week. UPMC Health Plan also earned top honors in 2015 and 2016.

National Business Group on Health
UPMC and UPMC Health Plan have won a platinum "2019 Best Employers: Excellence in Health & Well-Being" award from the National Business Group on Health (NGBH). This accolade—formerly the “Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles” award—recognizes organizations that are committed to improving employees’ well-being, productivity, and quality of life. UPMC and UPMC Health Plan have received 10 awards from the NBGH since 2009.

U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside among the nation’s best hospitals in many specialties, and it ranks UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh on its Honor Roll of America’s Best Children’s Hospitals. For more information, go to

National Committee for Quality Assurance
Health plans must support care that keeps members at optimum levels of health while also controlling costs and meeting government and other requirements. NCQA Health Plan Accreditation helps plans meet these goals. NCQA standards are a roadmap for improvement—organizations use them to perform a gap analysis and align improvement activities with areas that are most important to states and employers, such as network adequacy and consumer protection. Standards evaluate plans on:

UPMC Health Plan’s commercial HMO product was rated 4.5 out of 5 in NCQA’s Private Health Insurance Plan Ratings in 2019-2020. It is among the highest-ranked plans in Pennsylvania. In addition, its commercial PPO/EPO product was rated 4 out of 5.

Medical Assistance
UPMC for You is one of five Medicaid plans in Pennsylvania to earn an overall rating of 4 out of 5 in NCQA’s Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Ratings for 2019-2020.

UPMC for Life earned an overall rating of 4 out of 5 in NCQA’s Medicare Health Insurance Plan Ratings for 2019-2020.

Due largely to UPMC Health Plan's robust corporate compliance and ethics program, its parent company, UPMC, has been named one of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" in 2020 by the Ethisphere Institute. This is the second consecutive year UPMC has earned the award, which is given to only 132 companies worldwide.

Medicare Star Ratings
UPMC for Life's HMO, PPO, and Special Needs Plans received 4.5 out of 5 stars in the Medicare Star Ratings.
