Frequently asked questions

Do I need to enroll in a new plan, or will I be automatically enrolled in another plan?

You will not be automatically enrolled in another plan for 2027. You will need to select a new plan for 2027, but you don't need to select a new insurer for your Medicare Advantage coverage. UPMC for Life has plans available in your area for 2027. You can enroll in a new UPMC for Life plan starting Oct. 15. To avoid a gap in coverage, make sure to enroll in a new plan by Dec. 31.

How does this impact my prescription drug coverage?

Your part D coverage is provided through your current UPMC for Life Medicare Advantage plan. Because your current plan is not available next year, you will need to select another plan that includes part D prescription drug coverage. It's important to choose a plan with prescription drug coverage if you do not have other creditable part D coverage through the Veterans Administration or PACE, otherwise you may face penalties later. This can include higher monthly premiums and gaps in coverage, causing you to have to pay out-of-pocket for your medications. Learn about 2027 prescription drug benefits.

Why is my plan being discontinued for 2027?

From time to time, we make changes to our plan offerings to better meet the needs of our members and adapt to changes in the Medicare market. As part of this process, your plan will not be offered in 2027. We are committed to helping you review your options and select a plan that best fits your needs.
