Explanation of Benefits (EOB)

What your EOB can tell you

An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) gives you details about health care services you recently received. It lets you know how much you have already paid or may still owe for the service. It is not a bill.

We know the EOB can be confusing. That’s why we’ve updated our EOBs to make them easier to understand. Watch the video below and see our quick guide to learn about your new EOB.

Save time, space, and the environment by going paperless!

You can choose easy and quick digital access to your EOB. Instead of sending your EOB in the mail, we will email you a link to view it online.

Ready to go paperless? Here are two easy ways!

  • MyHealth OnLine

Simply log in to MyHealth OnLine to update your preferences.

    Already a MyHealth OnLine user?
    • Log in to MyHealth OnLine.
    • Go to the Menu in the upper left corner and choose Preferences.
    • Under Email Communications, enter your email address. If you’ve previously entered an email address, it will already be listed here and you can go to the next step.
    • Click in the second box to change your EOB preference. When you see a checkmark, that means you’ve selected to receive your EOBs and quarterly EOB summary digitally.

    New to MyHealth OnLine?
You can view your EOB anytime in MyHealth OnLine. All current and past EOBs are saved on this page.
  • UPMC Health Plan app

    • Click Let’s get started and follow the prompts to set your preferences.
    • Enter your email and keep the Explanation of Benefits box checked to receive this document online.

Once you update your preference, we’ll send you an email to confirm you’ll receive your future EOBs digitally. You can change your preference at any time and go back to receiving a paper copy in the mail. If you receive your EOBs in large print or a language other than English, you will still receive a paper copy.
