National Senior Health & Fitness Day is online for 2020!

UPMC for Life is proud to sponsor this virtual event promoting health activities for older adults.

Pittsburgh (May 19, 2020) –UPMC for Life is proud to be the Pennsylvania state sponsor of National Senior Health & Fitness Day for the 13th year in a row. This is the largest annual health event for older adults in the U.S.

This year, National Senior Health & Fitness Day will be held as a virtual fitness event to enable participants to experience at-home fitness like never before. UPMC for Life is celebrating at Noon Eastern on Tuesday, May 26. Participants can connect to the event over the phone or online. To participate, visit UPMC for Life’s National Senior Health & Fitness Day webpage. Led by Jen Macharsky, a SilverSneakers® health and fitness representative, participants will walk through different exercises that they can do from the comfort of home. Participants will also get information about their SilverSneakers benefit including at-home fitness kits, live fitness classes, and new online programs that can help them stay active.

Plus, UPMC for Life members can also take advantage of the Tuition Rewards® program offered by SilverSneakers which gives members the ability to earn tuition reward points for a family member. UPMC for Life members can earn up to 250 Tuition Rewards Points each month by taking online fitness classes through SilverSneakers. One reward point equals one dollar towards a tuition discount at more than 400 private colleges and universities. Members receive 1,000 points just for signing up! And now through June 30, members can earn double points when they take seven online classes in a month, including SilverSneakers Live and live FLEX classes. Members can learn more about earning Tuition Rewards points and view the program’s terms and conditions at silversneakers.tuitionrewards.com.

“It is important for all of us to focus on healthy ways to combat stress and anxiety. At UPMC Health Plan, we know that staying physically active is one of the many healthy choices our members can make, especially with the SilverSneakers program,” said April Golenor, Chief Medicare Officer for UPMC Health Plan. “Due to the COVID-19 regulations and the need for social distancing our team has supported efforts to create an opportunity for Medicare beneficiaries to move their bodies and continue to create a sense of community with other fitness enthusiasts. Through this event, our members can stay connected and active to alleviate stress and improve their physical health.”
